One On One with Kris Fade

Amaal Mallik: "I Cancelled Myself… Then My Song Went No. 1"

Episode Notes

In the last decade, I've been thrown out of 60 films." And yet "Yeh Awarapan" from Awarapan 2, sung by Arijit Singh, has just hit No. 1 on YouTube Music in India and broken into the global Top 10.

Composer Amaal Mallik sits down One On One with Kris Fade and holds nothing back. He comes from a 76-year Bollywood music legacy and has written more than 140 songs in 12 years. He's also the only musician loud enough to call out the industry over credit and royalties: who really makes a hit song, and why the composer, lyricist and producer so often go unnamed.

Amaal talks about his promise to his dying grandfather at 14 and how he gave up cricket for music. He opens up about his bond with brother Armaan, being hospitalised from burnout and why his dad wants him to quit. He also talks about the seven-year relationship he lost and why he hasn't dated since. Plus Bigg Boss, a fan with Amaal's face on his chest, and why Dubai is his escape.

Raw, emotional and unfiltered.
